Roger Sansom was born in Worcester, though his parents were from the London area. He has been a Logos committee member for many years, and at various times Director, Committee Chair and Trustee.

Roger's parts for Logos include Gayev in The Cherry Orchard, Manders in Ghosts, York in Richard II, Chasuble in The Importance of Being Earnest, Dorante in The Social Climber, Jacob in Nude with Violin. and Mr Burgess in Candida.

Roger has been in the profession since the 1960s. He has broadcast and appeared on television. In live theatre he has worked around the British Isles, including five spells in Northern Ireland, coinciding with the escalation of the Troubles.

During a Belfast rehearsal of Time and the Conways, that very English Priestley play, the theatre manager shouted to the cast to evacuate the building and a bomb exploded in the street as they were running out – towards it.

He has done numerous other things in theatre, often combined with appearing on the stage. In one summer season he was – rather oddly – both company manager and Equity deputy. It used to be said that you couldn't get a theatre job without being in Equity – and vice versa. The truth was, as usual, a little different from the story. Otherwise, there would have been no actors.

When Roger began, there was an Equity 'closed shop' which at least theoretically prevented duplicated professional names. Nevertheless, in an early job he was astonished to encounter a youngster who wanted to become an actor under the same name as him! A few years later, there was confusion at Equity about another Roger Sansom, and today there appears to be a production company with that name. How many namesakes there are is unknown, but the closed shop is long gone.

Roger has been married for forty years, and he and his wife Maggie, teacher and therapist, have two adult children, both graduates. Joanna has worked widely in librarianship, in retail and in the charity sector. Richard is a qualified sound engineer, and he appeared in Logos's Importance of Being Earnest, as James the Footman. Having two similarly six foot, deep voiced Sansoms in the cast caused amusement when Roger in clerical garb had to protest to Frances Cuka's magisterial Lady Bracknell: “I am a celibate, madam!”
